What a great discovery in the Inman Park area! Imagine enjoying creative cocktails in your grandparents early 60s, wood paneled basement! Sauced (another Ria Pell establishment) is a perfect spot for an afternoon on the patio, dinner seated on the curvy banquettes in the funky throw-back dining room, or late-night drinks at the bar where an amusing wall of drunken pink elephants watch over you (beware – some of the flea-market styled taxidermy creatures will also be watching over you!). It is campy, fun, relaxed and totally retro.
The drinks here did not disappoint and were as creative as the décor. Nicky ordered a “Dogo Argentino” (Fernet Branca, fresh muddled orange, Luxardo marashino, Gosling’s rum, fresh squeezed lemon). I ordered the “Romeo Y Julio” (Castillo and Appleton rums, grapefruit reduction, Edgewood gardens mint and cucumber bar syrup with grapefruit bitters). After one sip of each we immediately swapped drinks. Not a big rum fan, I preferred the dark rum used in the “Dogo Argentino.” Much happiness.
A return visit with friends followed only a few days later. We sat on the patio enjoying a Sunday afternoon sampling some great eats and drinks. I was anxious to try the “Vow of Silence.” Not a drink for the faint of heart, but I loved the strong, herbal flavors – green Chartreuse, allspice dram wash, fresh squeezed lemon, Peychaud’s bitters, and Dolin Blanc. A really nice mix. I have to also mention the wonderful selection of Ria’s sauces, the skewers, sweet potato fries, and the bacon peanut brittle.
