This is a delightful little cocktail with absolutely no known history. Nothing. It appeared in 1933 in a forgettable cocktail pamphlet called “Cocktail Parade.”
That’s it. Period.
What we can give you is our thoughts on this one. Our sample resulted in a beautiful presentation with layers of colors. The ingredients alone tell you right away that this is going to be a nice concoction. It is light, refreshing, and easy to enjoy. There are surprising tones of grapefruit, perhaps a result of the lemon cutting the sweet tone of the Cherry Heering.
“Now I can see why Communism was enticing,” stated Nicky.
The Communist
1 oz gin (we used Plymouth)
1 oz fresh squeezed orange juice
1/2 oz cherry brandy (Cherry Heering)
3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
Combine in an iced cocktail shaker, shake, strain into cocktail glass
